1.) Personal Floatation Device (PDF), life jacket that fits properly is required.
Each participant is responsible for bringing their own PDF. Please reach out to us ahead of time if you do not have one. We have PDFs to loan if needed.

2.) We recommend you wear closed-toed sneakers, boat shoes or water shoes.

3.) Sunscreen, lip balm and water bottles are advised.

4.)Towels, cell phones, dry clothes, etc. can be kept in dry box on the safety boat.
*First Aid kits will be provided

5.) Personal Floatation Device (PFD) Lifejackets should be worn in boats while on the water.

6.) When sailing in the creek or in either approach channel out on the lake: attempt to keep clear of power boats entering or leaving as a courtesy. We want to be respectful of other boaters, especially the fishing charters who are on their work time. While on the lake, you can alter course when safe to do so in order to let power boats pass cleanly. While in the channel you should move to the starboard (right) side to allow them to pass (overtake) on your port (left) side.
No Fee
Welcome to Oak Orchard Yacht Club's Basic Sailing. The goal of this course is to introduce interested adults to the sport of sailing. We will cover the sailing basics aboard both small centerboard and larger keel boats. Our Basic Sailing course includes an introduction to sailing, parts of a sailboat, understanding how wind moves a boat, trimming sails, steering a boat, boating safety, tying knots, and sailing terms. It is our hope that the information presented will provide beginning sailors with valuable information as you develop your sailing skills.
