The Annual KETCHUP RACE will be sailed on Sunday, August 29. Skippers meeting at 10:00 am, start at 11:00 am.
This is time on distance race where the starting times of the entered boats are adjusted to account for their PHRF rating so that all boat would FINISH the race at the same time. If you were to watch the race, you would see the boat with the highest PHRF rating (slowest boat, in theory) start with the others starting at some time later according to their PHRF and the length of the race course. If the handicap system were perfect (it isn’t); if all crews sail with excellence (they won’t); and if the winds don’t change drastically during the race (they might), then all boats would cross the finish line at the same time. The faster boats will have just caught up (or Ketched Up, or something like that). If not participating in the race , feel free to come out and watch the race. Please avoid the racers.
The race will be followed with a casual party on the lower deck of the clubhouse. As usual, Bloody Maries (Ketchup) will be served along with a modest selection of beer and soda. All members and guests of the club are welcome to join in. Munchies (chips and dips, etc.) will also be provided. If you prefer, BYOB and/or snack to share.
